Writers Block, Character Studies?

I don't know what's going on. I can't seem to write anything. I've been at work browsing the facebook for the past 2 hours. It’s 9:10. I get out of work at 10:00. I'm so bored but I can't seem to write anything. I don't know what to do. I wanted to finish the character breakdowns so I could start on the screenplay tomorrow morning. Maybe it's cause I’m so tired? I barely got any sleep last night. Well that's not entirely true. I got about 6 and half. But that's not good. I don't know. It just seems hard to get anything out. It took my like an hour just to do Brandon’s. Maybe it's because I know him? Maybe the characters I know real well will be hard to write about. That doesn't make any senses. hmmm.... ... ... sigh. Maybe I’ll work on something different for the movie. Yeah. I’ll do those bird eye view things of the set. That’ll keep me busy and productive. Hopefully tomorrow I can get on those character studies.

Lost Sahuaro

Last week was exhausting. So exhausting that I didn’t even get a chance to post. I had 4 tests in a 24 hour period. Needless to say I didn’t get anything done for the film. Friday night I took a sabbatical from responsibility and hung out with Dan and a few other guys. We went and say night watch again (which was AWESOME) and then hung out at four peaks. Saturday I had to do some errands with molly and her parents. Had to buy the tickets to Disney land and get the car oiled and stuff. Saturday night I worked at the information desk and put my attention back into Freshmen. I completely finished the excel spread sheet thing. It’s actually really cool. It’s easy to navigate and it really helped me lock in the story. As I do the next rewrite and finalize the script it’ll be a really great tool. So when I got home on Saturday around 11pm I decided to watch the first episode of Lost. I had the first disc from netflix. I put it on and went to bed at 2am. I watched all four episodes. The next morning I walked to Hollywood video with my roommate and rented the entire first season. I watched lost from 1pm to 12am on Sunday and then after work on Monday from 5pm-11pm. I finished the fist season in about 1 and half days. It was really cool. I haven’t’ watched a show like that in a long time. I really enjoyed my self. But now that lost is done it’s time to really get back to freshmen before I got to Disneyland.

I plan to finish the character studies tonight and start the rewrite of the screenplay tomorrow. I hope to finish by Thursday afternoon. I’ve got auditions for this short I’m doing about date rape tomorrow and Thursday night. But I’ll be able to write while I’m at work.

I talked to the marketing specialist at reslife today and she didn’t seem as friendly as she did last November. In fact she didn’t seem very friendly at all. She wants me to send her a shooting schedule and as many details with what we’ll be doing as possible. Which is fine. But she also wants some scene from the script. This makes me nervous because of swearing and sexual content and stuff. I’ll have to seriously think about which scenes I send her. She was fairly defensive about using the sahuaro dorm. I really need to use sahuaro but I’m willing to keep on open mind. She suggested a dorm that’ll be operational but won’t have residents living in it. The situation sounds ideal but I don’t want to make a rash decision. I’ll scout the location this evening when molly picks me up form work and see how it looks.

Friggen Oscars

So Night Watch (which was AWESOME!) and the Oscars (I’m royally pissed Brokeback didn’t win) took up my Sunday. But I was able to get some things done on Saturday as far as Freshmen is concerned. I’ve finished mapping out the screenplay on my time line spread sheet thing. Now I’ve got to fill in the blanks and show the time at night that everything happens. Once I completely finish this and the character sketches I’ll move onto completely finishing the last draft of the screenplay. Hopefully that will be by tomorrow. All this school stuff just keeps getting in my way. But I’ll hack through it.

I talked to molly for a bit on Sunday about her coming on as a producer. She wants to do it. I’m excited that she does because it means we can work together more. I’m gonna have to hold her hand a little bit at the beginning but that’s fine. It’ll be fun.

After Miguel

So my meeting with Miguel went ok. It was eventful enough for me to post another segment to the diary in the same day. He thought I was asking too much of the police and that they would probably say no. He suggested that I keep the schedule I have now, and then do another schedule with the bare minimum and try and get the police completely done in the film in one day. So that if the police say what we’re asking for is too much we can retort with “well this is another option.” So now that’s on my list. Miguel also told me to contact reslife and see what they say. So that’s next on my list as well. Because all this is happening with preparing for the police I’ve decided to back auditions to May.

Back to the Basics

I’m getting a little stressed because I have the auditions scheduled for April 15 and 16th. I wanna give the actors at least a month in advance notice about the audition, but I don’t want to post the auditions officially until I know things are gonna work out with the key elements like Reslife and Campus Police. As a precaution I reserved two rooms for the weekend 3 weeks later then the current reservation so that if I need it I can back it. Always good to have back up.

So I printed the first draft of the schedule. It was like 550 pages or something like that. I’ll use it till probably May. I’ll write all over it and make corrections as we lock down all the different elements of production. I’m meeting with Miguel this afternoon to discuss the current shooting schedule and to talk about going to IHOP, Reslife, and Campus Police. I’ll be interested to hear what he has to say about the board.

I never emailed Linneae. I’ll talk to her tonight. We’ve got a class together.

The #1 thing on my list now is getting a lock on the screenplay that I’m comfortable with. Before I can do that I need to finish my character sketches and my timeline spread sheet thing. Once I have those done they’ll act as the necessary tools I need to fine tune the screenplay to where I want it. So instead of writing anymore in this diary I’m gonna start doing that.
